Janardhan Reddy Steps In As Farmers Block Road Over Canal Water

Ballari: Gangavathi MLA Gali Janardhana Reddy stopped at a farmers’ protest on Siruguppa Road at Lakshminagar Camp in Kampli Assembly constituency on Tuesday night while on his way to Ballari. He listened to their grievances and intervened to resolve the issue of canal water supply.

The farmers told Reddy that the water supply to the canals had been stopped, affecting their agricultural activities. Reddy immediately called Tungabhadra reservoir chief engineer SB Malligewad to enquire about the issue.

The officer told him that water had already been released. However, when the farmers said that only 30 percent of the water was being released, Reddy sought clarification from the officer, who stated that the water had been released in full.

Reddy, who had put the call on speaker, allowed the farmers to speak directly to the officer. One of the farmers warned that they would resume the road blockade if the water flow was affected again after Reddy left.

Responding to the farmers, Reddy said he too would join their protest if the problem persisted.

“The officer has assured us that the water has been released. If there is any problem, I too will join you in the protest,” he told the farmers, drawing cheers from those who had gathered.
