INT 3-4 CLU: Match Review And Updated UEFA Champions League Table

According to a report by BBC Sport on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Club Brugge defeated Inter Milan 4-3 in a thrilling UEFA Champions League league-phase encounter at San Siro, with Nicolo Tresoldi scoring a hat-trick to hand the Belgian side their first points of the campaign.

The defeat marked a historic setback for Inter, who suffered their fourth consecutive loss in the competition for the first time in their history.

Inter started brightly, with former goalkeeper Yann Sommer called into action to deal with efforts from Andy Diouf and Lautaro Martinez. Marcus Thuram also came close to scoring but sent his effort narrowly wide.

Club Brugge gradually settled into the contest, and Tresoldi nearly opened the scoring in the 26th minute when a corner fell into his path, but his powerful effort struck the junction of the post and crossbar.

Inter subsequently threatened through Piotr Zielinski, who was denied by an excellent recovery challenge from Hugo Vetlesen. The resulting corner led to a counterattack, with Carlos Forbs driving into the penalty area before being brought down by Hakan Calhanoglu.

Tresoldi stepped up to take the resulting penalty and calmly sent his effort into the top corner to give the visitors the lead.

Calhanoglu nearly equalised with a powerful long-range effort that struck the crossbar. Martinez later thought he had levelled the score with a header from the midfielder’s free-kick, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Inter eventually restored parity shortly before half-time. Federico Dimarco helped Thuram’s delivery into the penalty area, where Martinez used his strength to hold off his marker before firing past Sommer.

The hosts continued to apply pressure after the restart, but Sommer produced an outstanding save to deny Martinez after the Argentine forward attempted to beat him with a dummy.

Club Brugge then regained the advantage when Forbs chased a long ball and beat goalkeeper Josep Martinez to it. Tresoldi collected the loose ball and rolled it into the unguarded net to score his second goal.

The visitors extended their lead further when Forbs tested Martinez, who parried the effort into Tresoldi’s path. The striker bundled home the rebound to complete his hat-trick and make it 3-1.

Inter refused to surrender and reduced the deficit during the final 10 minutes after Petar Sucic’s effort was saved, allowing Martinez to convert the rebound.

However, Club Brugge restored their two-goal cushion when Forbs exploited Inter’s high defensive line and set up Romeo Vermant, who finished to make it 4-2.

Ange-Yoan Bonny produced a fine individual finish in added time, cutting inside from the left before curling the ball past Sommer, but Inter could not find another equaliser.
