2027: Vote Tinubu To Complete 1, 055 km Federal Roads In Niger State Umahi Tells Nigerlites
The Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi has envouraged eligible Nigerian voters to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete all federal government initiated roads projects across the country, particularly 1, 055 kilometres in Niger state.
There are about 5, 500 kilometres of new and on-going road projects nationwide, out of which 1,055 kilometres is in Niger state, the Minister explained at the flag-off of the reconstruction and dualisation of the Lambata-Bida-Mokwa-Makera-Kontagora federal highway in Bida, Niger state on Tuesday.
Umahi said the 5, 500 road projects in parts of Nigeria is part of infrastructural development programme of Tinubu administration, adding that the President needed second term of four-years to complete the numerous road projects it initiated in parts of the country.
The Tinubu led All Progressive Congress (APC) administration is committed to improving road infrastructure across all the six geopolitical zones, Umahi said, describing the highway project in Niger state as a potential fifth legacy road project of the Tinubu administration.
The Minister cited its scale, use of reinforced concrete pavement and the involvement of Dangote Group of companies under the federal government’s infrastructure tax-credit scheme, adding that the President Tinubu’s ongoing infrastructure programme covers several states, Niger in particular with large land space benefiting substantially from the roads projects.
He further explained that; 162 kilometres of roads and 115 metres of bridges had been completed within the north-central region, and commended Governor Umaru Bago for investing in infrastructure by constructing more than 300 kilometres of roads, over five flyovers and accompanying underpass.
Approach adopted by Governor Bago to roads construction, the Minister argued simply demonstrated commitments to even development of Niger state regardless of whether a road fell under federal or state government jurisdictions.
Umahi who praised the general infrastructural development attributed the trend across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja to the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration, arguing that the reforms created opportunities for state governments to invest in critical projects.
The Minister commended President Tinubu for approving the Niger federal highway projects which he said would improve intra-connectivity in state and as well strengthen road links between north-central region and other parts of Nigeria.
The Special Adviser to the President of the Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Mansir Ahmed said the company was pleased to be part of the developmental projects through the infrastructure tax-credit scheme, describing the highway as strategic corridors for Nigeria’s economic growth.
The 1, 055 kilometres roads, Mansir explained will be constructed with concrete pavements instead of the conventional asphalt, pointing out that work would commence from four locations for accelerated delivery.
When completed, the roads projects is expected to improve transportation, reduce travel delays and as well strengthen access to markets for farmers to transport farm produce from their communities along the corridors to points of consumption.
