Jose Mourinho identifies four Real Madrid players as key to beating AS Roma – report

According to a report by Madrid Universal on Tuesday October 13, 2026, Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified four Real Madrid players who could prove crucial as his side prepare to face AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League.

According to reports, Mourinho is particularly concerned about Roma’s high pressing and believes Thibaut Courtois, Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aurelien Tchouameni will have important roles to play in helping Madrid overcome the challenge.

Courtois is expected to contribute with his distribution and ability to help Madrid build attacks from the back. The Belgian goalkeeper will need to make the right decisions when Roma press aggressively and force the defenders into difficult situations.

Huijsen’s composure and ability to play forward passes could also be vital in breaking through Roma’s first line of pressure. Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold’s passing range and ability to switch play could help Madrid exploit spaces on the flanks and find teammates in advanced positions.

Tchouameni completes the quartet, with the French midfielder expected to provide defensive balance while helping the team progress the ball through midfield. His ability to retain possession under pressure and deliver incisive passes could create opportunities for Madrid’s attacking players.

Mourinho’s concerns come amid an inconsistent start to the season, with Madrid still working to improve their performances in possession. The Portuguese manager, who previously coached Roma, is familiar with the Italian side and the threat their pressing approach can pose.

Madrid began their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Inter Milan and will be looking to secure another three points in Italy. Mourinho will hope the four players can help his team deal with Roma’s pressure and maintain their positive start to the competition.
