‘Breaking Bad’ star RJ Mitte claimed Hollywood didn’t want him on screen in heartbreaking texts before death at 34

RJ Mitte was frustrated at having a hard time finding work following his success on “Breaking Bad,” his personal text messages reveal.

The actor died Monday by suicide, Page Six confirmed. He was 34 years old.

Mitte, who had cerebral palsy and was a disability rights advocate, said he was facing obstacles from landing meaningful acting gigs in text messages to a close friend obtained by the Daily Mail.

Mitte was best known for playing Walter “Flynn” White Jr. on “Breaking Bad,” which lasted five seasons and aired on AMC from to 2008 to 2013.

In a text message from April 2022, Mitte wrote, “Looking for interesting stuff to do, getting a lot of scripts where I would be a prop and they don’t want to give any depth, 3 lines if that. I’m writing my own s—t now.”

The situation didn’t improve four months later, when he wrote, “Just doing animation, no one wants me on screen… it’s annoying as f—k.”

He also detailed getting overlooked by casting directors because of his disability.

“When I go for a part, they sometimes tell me that it’s not a character with a disability, and I’m like why can’t the character be disabled?” he wrote in April 2017.

“They get real uncomfortable when I say that,” he added.

He also called some casting agents “a—holes” who “won’t even look at me.”

Though he booked some gigs in Australia and Canada, Mitte said he wanted to keep working in the US to keep his health insurance.

In June 2020 he wrote, ‘I’ve got to figure out more work. I need to keep myself relevant lol.”

He also noted at one point, “There’s a lot I could do, if given the chance.”

Mitte was a Screen Actors Guild spokesperson for actors with disabilities and was passionate about pushing for more opportunities for those in similar positions as him.

In a statement to Page Six Monday, his rep noted that he served as president of The Mitte Foundation and “used his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities.”

He told the Badger Herald in 2015. “I think everyone that has a disability has the opportunity to make an impact with what they can do and who they are. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do today if it wasn’t for my disability and what it instilled in me.”

Mitte was looking forward to doing more work just days before his death.

Mitte exclusively told Page Six late last month that he believed “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan might be cooking up a spinoff to the Emmy-winning show.

“I am cautiously optimistic that Vince has something in mind,” he said at the Los Angeles premiere of his movie “Talking To Strangers” at the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills on Sept. 30.

“I’m not entirely sure [what it is],” he added, noting however, “At the end of the day, any chance I can work with Vince and his team is the dream come true.”

In his last interview before his tragic death, Mitte was asked about his plans for the future and he said he wanted to continue auditioning and “living the dream.”

“I tell people, you know, every dream could be a nightmare, too … but just keep living it, just keep pushing forward,” he said on “The Joe Vulpis” podcast on Oct. 5.
