The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called for German investment and development partnerships in agriculture, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), and youth skills acquisition in Abuja.
According to a media post by Honourable Lere Olayinka, the FCT Minister’s media aide, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Wike made the appeal while receiving the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Stefan Rössel, in Abuja.
Wike highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Germany, expressing his administration’s commitment to transforming Abuja into a world-class capital through improved security, infrastructure and urban development.
He cited Berlin and Munich as examples of cities whose development experiences could provide useful lessons for Abuja.
The minister also defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, acknowledging the current difficulties while maintaining that the policies were intended to deliver long-term benefits.
He highlighted decentralisation and state policing as measures to address insecurity.
Earlier, Ambassador Rössel commended the relationship between both countries and expressed Germany’s willingness to deepen cooperation with the FCT Administration.
He identified urban planning, infrastructure and city governance as potential areas of partnership, adding that Germany would continue supporting Nigeria’s economic and security initiatives.
The meeting provided an opportunity to explore cooperation in investment, youth development and sustainable urban growth.
