As season 4 of Tulsa King hits the small screen, it’s only natural that Sylvester Stallone has one eye on what the future holds for Dwight Manfredi, and he’s already told the writers of the show exactly how to wrap up his character’s arc when the time comes.
Tulsa King is yet another Taylor Sheridan success story. The Yellowstone creator has branched out from cowboys and has delivered a couple of excellent, very gritty street crime stories in the form of Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King.
Stallone has given us a character who, despite being involved in some pretty shady business, is someone we can root for. Already we’ve seen Dwight, aka The General, have a few close calls – whether it be rival mobsters or law enforcement – but Stallone isn’t ready for the fun to stop just yet.
Speaking to Radio Times about just how long Tulsa King can continue and what kind of journey he wants Dwight to go on, Stallone told us how he sees things playing out.
James Russo as Quiet Ray and Sylvester Stallone as Dwight Manfredi in Tulsa King season 3. Brian Douglas/Paramount+"Well, the fifth season is going to be a dramatic shift. I’d like to run this for at least six seasons, I really would," he said.
That would make Tulsa King the longest-running Sheridan series if it can make it to six seasons. But, as with any great story, tying things up in the appropriate manner will be key to the legacy of the series.
Revealing the one condition he has for the conclusion of the show, Stallone added: "I don’t want him to die. He’s got to retire to a hammock somewhere.
"Every gangster in film and TV, they get shot and die. No. I want a happy ending. I hate having characters bite the dust, I really do."

Given the explosive nature of Tulsa King, and the high death toll in other Sheridan shows, a happy ending doesn’t seem likely. But, if anyone can command the course of his own story, it’s Stallone.
Tulsa King season 4 debuts exclusively on Paramount+ on Friday 16 October, with new episodes weekly until the finale on 19 December.
"Dwight fights to legitimise his empire, and protect his crew as corrupt politicians, dangerous new enemies, and a crushing personal loss hit from every direction," reads the official synopsis.
"Each move drags Dwight deeper into the street instincts he left behind in New York – turning Tulsa into a battleground, and Dwight into the one threat no one can afford to underestimate."
The show has been greenlit for a fifth season, but what happens beyond that is currently unknown.
