Minnie Dlamini Admits She Hoped to Marry Itumeleng Khune After Shabba Set Them Up

Minnie Dlamini has opened up about how her romance with former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune began, revealing that football legend Siphiwe “Shabba” Tshabalala played a key role in bringing them together.

The media personality shared the story during an appearance on 947 Drive with Thando Thabethe, where she reflected on the early days of her relationship with Khune and how excited she was when she learnt that the football star was interested in her.

Minnie also revealed that she entered the relationship hoping it would lead to marriage, explaining that she has always been someone who gives her all when she falls in love.

During the interview, Minnie recalled receiving a phone call from Tshabalala, who informed her that Khune liked her and wanted her number.

“Shabba actually called me, and he said, ‘Itu really likes you; can I give him your number?’” she recounted.

Although Minnie responded casually, she admitted that she was incredibly excited about the prospect of dating Khune, who was her favourite football player at the time.

She explained that she tried to conceal her excitement by responding as though the request was no big deal, despite being thrilled by the unexpected opportunity.

Their first in-person meeting also left a lasting impression on her. Minnie recalled returning from a trip home and expecting Khune to wait outside the airport because of his celebrity status.

However, the goalkeeper surprised her by walking inside the airport and waiting for her at the arrivals area.

When they eventually returned to his car, she discovered that approximately 10 security guards had surrounded it, highlighting the level of attention Khune attracted as a well-known footballer.

Minnie revealed that their relationship lasted just under two years. Despite its eventual end, she explained that she had approached the romance with serious intentions.

“If you know anything about me, I’m a lover girl. When I get in a relationship, this is it, I’m done, we’re getting married,” she said.

She added that she has always invested herself fully in her relationships, believing that they would eventually lead to marriage.

Her comments offered insight into how she viewed her romance with Khune at the time, suggesting that she genuinely believed they could build a future together.

Both Minnie and Khune have since moved on with their lives. The former couple eventually married other partners and welcomed children.

Minnie, however, later separated from her ex-husband, Quinton Jones, with whom she shares a child. The former couple announced their separation in 2022, and Minnie revealed during the interview that she is still navigating the divorce process.

Her latest comments have once again placed her past relationship with Khune in the spotlight, years after the pair went their separate ways.
