Van Vicker Takes Lil Win to Court for Defamation, Seeks GH¢10 Million in Damages
Ghanaian actor Van Vicker has filed a defamation lawsuit against fellow actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, widely known as Lil Win, at the High Court in Accra. The suit demands GH¢10 million in exemplary damages over comments Van Vicker claims were defamatory and damaging to his reputation.
According to the writ, Van Vicker alleges that Lil Win made statements that falsely portrayed him in a negative light and harmed his standing as a respected figure in Ghana’s entertainment industry. The plaintiff contends that the remarks were published to a wide audience and have caused him embarrassment, ridicule, and reputational harm.
Van Vicker is asking the court to award the GH¢10 million as exemplary damages, a form of compensation intended not only to punish the defendant but also to deter similar conduct in the future. In addition to the financial claim, he is seeking a formal declaration that the statements made by Lil Win were defamatory and untrue.
The actor is also requesting a perpetual injunction restraining Lil Win from repeating or publishing the alleged defamatory comments in any form. Furthermore, Van Vicker wants an unconditional retraction and a public apology, to be published with the same prominence as the original statements, so that the record can be corrected before the same audience that heard the claims.
The lawsuit marks a significant escalation in tensions between the two entertainers and highlights the growing willingness of public figures in Ghana to seek legal redress over comments made on social media and other platforms. Defamation suits of this nature can be lengthy and costly, and the outcome may hinge on whether the statements in question are proven to be false and damaging.
As of now, neither Lil Win nor his representatives have publicly responded to the suit. The case will proceed before the High Court in Accra, where Van Vicker will need to substantiate his claims and demonstrate the extent of the harm he says he has suffered. The matter is expected to attract considerable public attention given the prominence of both parties.
