The Roundhill Memory ETF falls 5% while QQQ loses just 1%, showing how sharply the CXMT threat concentrates pain on memory stocks.

CXMT's president announced a denser server memory chip launching by year-end at a Shanghai conference, threatening pricing across the entire high-end segment.

Memory stocks are slipping for a second straight session after Chinese rival CXMT laid out plans to compete for the high-end server market. Micron Technology (NASDAQ:MU) stock is at $942.21, down 5% in morning trading, with the selloff landing directly on its core server memory business. The damage is landing hardest where a new rival's product would compete head-on.

Meanwhile, SanDisk (NASDAQ:SNDK) stock is at $1,421.78, down 4%, a slightly smaller drop for a flash storage company with no server memory line. That near match is the puzzle this selloff poses, since only one of the two sells the product CXMT is targeting.

To gauge how concentrated the damage is, the Roundhill Memory ETF (CBOE:DRAM) serves as a sector proxy, and it's at $51.73, down 5%. By comparison, the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ:QQQ) is at $741.01, down 0.7%, a much softer decline for the broad tech market.

CXMT, which is privately held, said over the weekend that it plans to launch a denser server memory product by the end of this year. Its president announced the plan at a chip conference in Shanghai. The design packs more cells into the same chip area. That step would move CXMT into the high-end server memory market the established suppliers hold.

This marks the group's second consecutive session of losses tied to that announcement. High-end server memory is central to the artificial intelligence (AI) data center expansion (we featured seven companies driving that expansion, from power to networking, in a free report here), so a capable new supplier raises fresh questions about pricing across the group. A denser design lets a maker pack more capacity into each chip, which is the core economic driver in this industry.

Micron designs and manufactures the same type of server memory CXMT described, so a credible new competitor reaches its pricing directly, which explains why Micron shares are falling harder than SanDisk shares. The company reported record fiscal Q4 2026 results at the end of September, driven by AI demand for memory, and guided the current quarter above that level.

SanDisk sells flash chips for storage, a separate line from the server memory at the center of CXMT's announcement, and its exposure arrives through sentiment across the memory group, which helps explain why SanDisk stock is down nearly as much as Micron stock. Such closely matched moves show how tightly the market still trades memory names as a single group.

CXMT's timeline is the open variable for Micron. Holders fo Micron stock can watch for whether CXMT ships server-grade product on the schedule its president described in Shanghai. A delay could ease the pressure on server memory pricing, while an on-time launch could keep the group under strain.

SanDisk shareholders could look for signs that selling across the memory complex is easing, since the flash maker's exposure runs through sector sentiment. The DRAM Roundhill Memory ETF offers a simple read on that question, given its focus on the memory industry. Any recovery in that fund would suggest the selling is fading beyond Micron stock.

Micron's next update on server memory pricing may show whether CXMT's plan is reaching customer conversations or remains a distant threat. With the selloff now in its second session, investors should size their positions in both names to leave room for further swings.
