Nigeria is shifting its economic focus towards attracting investment, strengthening financial markets and mobilising capital for sustainable growth, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said.
The move was highlighted during separate meetings between senior Nigerian officials and the leadership of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand.
According to the CBN, the meetings held on Monday, October 12, involved the CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele; IMF First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz; and World Bank President Ajay Banga.
The CBN said the discussions reflected Nigeria’s intention to build on progress in macroeconomic stabilisation by creating conditions for stronger investment and long-term economic growth.
“With macroeconomic stabilisation providing a stronger foundation, Nigeria is turning its attention to the next phase of its economic agenda: strengthening financial markets, mobilising capital and creating the conditions for sustainable growth,” the apex bank said.
The shift signals a broader focus on translating economic reforms into increased investment and more sustainable growth, with financial markets expected to play a key role in mobilising funds for productive activities.
The meetings also provided an opportunity for Nigerian officials to engage with the leadership of the two international financial institutions on the country’s economic priorities.
Nigeria’s next challenge will be to translate stabilisation gains into investment, expanded economic opportunities and improved living standards for citizens
