Van Vicker Sues Lil Win for GH¢10m Over Alleged Defamation
Ghanaian actor Van Vicker is seeking GH¢10 million in damages from fellow actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, over a viral social media video that allegedly claimed he had been banned from acting in Kumasi.
The lawsuit, filed at the High Court in Accra on 10 October 2026, centres on a video published on TikTok and Facebook on 13 August under the headline “LIL WIN BANS VAN VICKER FROM ACTING IN KUMASI!”
In his statement of claim, Van Vicker argues that the video damaged his reputation by portraying him as dishonest and unprofessional. He says the publication subjected him to public ridicule and prompted calls from actors, film producers and directors seeking clarification about the allegations. He also claims that the controversy has affected his career, with some producers becoming uncertain about his availability to work in Kumasi.
The court documents include an English translation of portions of the video, in which Lil Win allegedly accused Van Vicker of lying about him and failing to fulfil his professional commitments to a film production. One of the statements attributed to Lil Win reads: “Our own brother, Van Vicker has lied again against me.” The transcript also alleges that Lil Win criticised the actor’s performance on a project and threatened to exclude him from the upcoming film Journey to Africa if the issues were not addressed.
Van Vicker denies the allegations and maintains that he has conducted himself professionally throughout his career as an actor, producer and director. He further claims that the dispute has caused him anxiety and led him to cancel planned business trips to Kumasi over concerns about public reaction. In addition to the GH¢10 million in exemplary damages, he is seeking general damages for libel, legal costs and a public retraction and apology to be published on news portals with the same prominence as the original material for four consecutive weeks.
The writ of summons directs Lil Win to enter an appearance within eight days of being served, including the day of service, and warns that failure to do so could result in judgment being entered in his absence. The filing of the suit does not establish that defamation occurred, and the claims remain subject to determination by the court.
