Why Tinubu Appointed Me, Adeleke, Soludo to APC Campaign Council — Wike
According to a report by Vanguard on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has explained why the All Progressives Congress (APC) included politicians from opposition parties in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign council.
Wike, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the decision was intended to accommodate individuals outside the ruling party who were willing to contribute to Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
The minister made the clarification on Tuesday during a media parley in Abuja while reacting to his appointment as a state campaign coordinator in the APC’s revised presidential campaign council.
Wike was appointed alongside Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo as part of the arrangements for Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The inclusion of the three politicians in the campaign council has drawn attention because they are not members of the APC. Wike belongs to the PDP, while Adeleke and Soludo are associated with opposition parties.
Explaining the rationale behind the decision, Wike said Tinubu considered it necessary to involve politicians who, despite their party affiliations, had something to contribute to his second-term ambition.
According to the minister, the president’s decision reflected his willingness to accommodate individuals who could support his re-election bid, regardless of whether they belonged to the ruling party.
“My thinking is that the president, in his wisdom, said there are those who are not members of our political parties but have something to offer to his re-election, and it’s proper to accommodate them,” he said.
Wike’s comments suggest that the APC’s campaign structure is open to politicians outside its membership who are prepared to support Tinubu’s bid to secure another term in office.
The former Rivers State governor has maintained his position within the PDP despite his involvement in political activities associated with the Tinubu administration.
His appointment, alongside those of Adeleke and Soludo, highlights the participation of politicians from different political backgrounds in the president’s re-election campaign.
With the 2027 presidential election approaching, the APC is making arrangements to strengthen its campaign structure and mobilise support across the country.
