GEJ Seized 2 Helicopters I Bought At $15M Each; Wike Refused To Pay N600M Demurrage For Them—Amaechi
Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has stated that he bought two helicopters to help security agencies detect crimes and track criminals in the state during his tenure
In a video shared by Splash FM 1055, Amaechi said his government bought the helicopters for $15 million each, and then President Goodluck Jonathan seized them. He added that the helicopters were eventually released to Nyesom Wike, during Wike’s tenure as governor. However, he said Wike refused to pay the demurrage, which was about 600 million naira
Amaechi explained that the helicopters were designed to carry intelligence equipment that could detect a crime from as far as 20 kilometres away. He said the system would send information about the crime to police officers on the ground, allowing them to move towards the crime scene or the place where the suspect was hiding
In Amaechi’s words: “They made me purchase two helicopters which president Goodluck Jonathan seized. And when we released it to Wike, Wike said he couldn’t pay the demurrage of about 600 million naira. We bought those two helicopters at 15 million dollars each, and they were purely to carry intelligent equipment”
