If the latest reports are true, Pedro Neto is pushing Chelsea player out of the exit door

According to a report by Football London on Monday 12 October 2026, Malo Gusto could consider leaving Chelsea as Pedro Neto’s impressive performances at right wing-back threaten his place in Xabi Alonso’s starting line-up.

Gusto is weighing up his future at Stamford Bridge and wants assurances about his playing time under the Chelsea manager.

The France international started five of Chelsea’s first six matches across all competitions but has recently seen his opportunities decrease.

He was an unused substitute against Brentford before making a late appearance in the 5-1 victory over Bournemouth.

Chelsea’s growing competition for places has complicated Gusto’s situation, particularly following the return of Moises Caicedo and the arrival of Marco Palestra.

Gusto has featured at right wing-back and in central midfield under Alonso, but his versatility has not guaranteed regular minutes. Reece James’ eventual return could further limit his opportunities.

However, Neto’s emergence as a reliable option on the right flank has also contributed to the defender’s uncertain position.

Naturally an attacking winger, the Portugal international has adapted to Alonso’s system and become an important figure in the team.

He has featured in all eight of Chelsea’s matches this season, starting the last five Premier League fixtures.

Neto’s ability to operate in the wing-back role has given Alonso another option, reducing the need to rely on Gusto in that position.

Chelsea initially appeared to have Gusto competing directly with Palestra for the right wing-back spot.

However, Neto’s performances have changed the situation, leaving Gusto with fewer opportunities to establish himself.

The competition reflects Chelsea’s considerable squad depth, although the absence of European football means the club has fewer matches in which to rotate its players.

Gusto is not the only young Chelsea player whose future has attracted attention. Estevao has also been linked with a possible departure amid concerns about his limited starting opportunities.
