President Murmu to Attend Bastar Dussehra During October 22-23 Chhattisgarh Visit

President Droupadi Murmu will visit Chhattisgarh on October 22 and 23, participating in official programmes in Raipur and Jagdalpur, including the renowned Bastar Dussehra festival.

The visit follows an invitation from Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who recently invited the President to attend the festival, one of the region’s major cultural events.

According to officials, Murmu will attend programmes at Lok Bhavan and the Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium in Budhapara, Raipur. In Jagdalpur, she is scheduled to participate in the traditional Muria Darbar and attend the main public event of Bastar Dussehra at Lalbag Ground.

Preparations for the presidential visit are underway, with senior state officials reviewing arrangements related to security, transportation, accommodation and event management.

A coordination meeting was held at Lok Bhavan in Raipur on Monday under the chairmanship of Governor’s Secretary C.R. Prasanna to assess and finalise preparations.

Officials reviewed arrangements within the Lok Bhavan complex, including seating for official functions, parking for the presidential convoy and accompanying vehicles, uninterrupted electricity supply and reliable internet connectivity.

The meeting also focused on security coordination and transportation arrangements to ensure the smooth movement of the President and her entourage.

The Chief Secretary has issued instructions to the concerned district administrations in the Raipur and Bastar divisions to ensure the necessary arrangements are in place. District Collectors, Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have been assigned responsibilities for security and road movement between Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur, Maa Danteshwari Airport in Jagdalpur and the scheduled venues.

Departments have also been directed to make arrangements for accommodation and other facilities for officials and distinguished guests accompanying the President.

Bastar Dussehra is a major cultural tradition of the Bastar region, with celebrations featuring distinctive local customs and community participation. Muria Darbar is among the important events associated with the festival.
