The next time Gyamfi and Basintale insult DMB, those fraternizing with them should respond- N. Offei

Former presidential staffer and New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Justice Newton-Offei has criticised party leaders and former appointees for their association with NDC communicators Sammy Gyamfi and Malik Basintale.

Newton-Offei issued the warning in a Facebook post on Monday, June 1, following controversy surrounding the interactions between some senior NPP figures and the two communicators.

He warned that party officials who maintain friendly relations with Sammy Gyamfi and Malik Basintale should be prepared to answer questions if the pair launch further verbal attacks against the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, those who have been seen happily dancing and socialising with the NDC communicators should not expect grassroots members to take responsibility for defending the party whenever disagreements arise.

ā€œNext time Sammy Gyamfi and Malik Basintale insult our candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, those NPP officials and former appointees that were excitedly engaged in vigorous dancing skills with these ndc foul-mouths should be made to respond,ā€ Newton-Offei stated.

He questioned why some NPP figures would continue to build friendly relationships with individuals they believe frequently attack their party, only to expect other members to confront them when the criticism continues.

ā€œYou can’t continue with this love affair with such recklessly abusive characters, and when they turn their guns on our party, you would expect some of us to go and face them, because we can neither dance, nor, have an image to protect,ā€ he said.

Newton-Offei also emphasised that grassroots supporters remain committed to defending Bawumia and protecting his political standing against what they consider unfair attacks.

He nevertheless insisted that party members without ministerial experience or senior leadership positions deserve respect and should not be treated as though their contributions are less important.

ā€œBut the fact that we’re not former ministers or current key party officials doesn’t make us monkeys to work and for baboons to chop,ā€ he added.

The remarks have highlighted tensions within the NPP following the presence of prominent party members at the funeral rites of Sammy Gyamfi’s father-in-law in Kumasi. The development has sparked debate among some supporters about political loyalty, party discipline and the limits of cordial relationships between members of opposing political parties.
