Chelsea could land their next bargain very soon as Barcelona name Jules Kounde price
According to a report by Chelsea Chronicle on Monday 12 October 2026, Chelsea could strengthen their defence by signing Barcelona star Jules Kounde after the Spanish club reportedly set an asking price of €50 million (£42 million).
Barcelona are expected to demand £42 million for the France international, who has attracted renewed interest from the Blues.
Chelsea signed Jordan Henderson on a free transfer from Brentford during the summer before bringing in Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa for £7.5 million.
Henderson has already made an impact at Stamford Bridge, scoring twice and providing an assist in Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Kounde could represent another bargain for Chelsea, given his versatility and experience at the highest level of European football.
The 27-year-old can play as either a right-back or centre-back, making him a potential fit for Xabi Alonso’s back-three system.
His pace and defensive qualities could also help him adapt to the demands of the Premier League.
However, Chelsea must consider how his arrival would affect their existing defensive options, particularly young defender Josh Acheampong, who has impressed under Alonso.
Signing Kounde could limit Acheampong’s opportunities to develop, making the decision more complicated for the Chelsea hierarchy.
Nevertheless, Kounde could offer an upgrade on Wesley Fofana, who has struggled to consistently meet expectations since joining the club.
Chelsea must weigh the benefits of signing an experienced international against the need to give their young defenders regular opportunities.
Barcelona’s reported £42 million valuation could make Kounde an attractive option if the club decides to strengthen its defence again.
