Real Madrid and Louis Vuitton are back together for another season
Tomorrow, Real Madrid will travel to the Italian capital to play AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. It's Los Blancos's second Champions League match against an Italian team this season, and Roma's first game against their old manager Jose Mourinho. Definitely worth a watch. But while many will only care about what's happening on the pitch, we're tuning in to see Jude Bellingham et al as they touch down in the Italian city. Why? Because they're going to be decked out in some new, very slick, Louis Vuitton gear.
What they'll be wearing is the new formal travel kit, designed by Pharrell Williams and his design team. It's launching alongside a new formal look, too, and is shown off in a campaign featuring the players, including Balloon D'Or-nominated players Kylian Mbappé, Bellingham and Yan Diomandé, as well as Spain's World Cup winning full-back, Marc Cucurella.
Some of the collection hasn't been touched (if it ain't broke, don't fix it), but a few new pieces have been added in to update it. They take inspiration from the Louis Vuitton Trunk collection, which launched in February, and sit alongside leather goods that are stamped in the LV monogram to honour its 130th anniversary.
In the travel kit, a new reversible nylon jacket has joined the collection. Depending on the mood, players can either wear it more inconspicuously (like Cucurella), where just the Real Madrid crest and Louis Vuitton signature feature on the exterior. Or, they can flip it so that the monogram lining is fully exposed. There's a new, navy sweater that's stamped with ‘Vuitton’ on the front, and ‘Real Madrid’ on the back. A beige polo shirt, replaces the previous navy one. And finally, a reversible belt and a navy cap are new accessories.
The same, sharp-lined tailoring forms the formal wear, but a new blue shirt with subtle white stripes has been included. A coat from LV's mainline has been thrown in, too – and judging by the campaign images, it looks like Bellingham and Tchouaméni are both fans. Made of cashmere, the black coat has a removable, monogrammed scarf that clips to the collar with a button. But this special piece has personalised labels inside of it, with Real Madrid and Louis Vuitton signatures, as well as each players’ initials.
Like the last collections, these are only available to the players and the club reps, meaning you're not going to be seeing it out and about often. Which is a shame, really. Best keep your eyes peeled on their travels, we say.
