This is after worker Thandiwe Chili was shot dead at her workplace, alongside two colleagues.

They were killed allegedly by a worker who had attended a disciplinary hearing and lost the case.

It’s alleged that the worker arrived for the internal hearing and, after being given the verdict, which wasn’t in his favour, he allegedly shot three managers, who all died at the scene, before escaping.

Thandiwe was from Empangeni but worked at a wholesale store in Eshowe, northern KZN.

She was one of three managers attending the hearing when they were killed. The incident happened on Saturday, 10 October at the store’s offices.

Thandiwe’s brother, Khehla Chili, said he was told that after the man was given the verdict that he’d lost his job, he left the office but returned minutes later with a gun and shot all three managers, and his sister Thandiwe among them.

“This is very sad for the entire family. Security guards at the store searches workers when they leave after work, but they don’t search them when they arrive. If they had searched the worker, they would have found a gun on him and taken it away from him, and that would have prevented this tragedy,” he said.

Khehla said their family is devastated and his sister left behind the kids she was taking care of alone, asking what would happen to them now that she’s no more.

“We want justice to prevail because this has already happened.”

He said Thandiwe had worked at the store for several years.

KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that cops in Eshowe are tracing a suspect who shot and killed three people at a grocery chain store in Eshowe on Saturday.

“Reports indicate that the suspect, who is a former employee of the store, had gone to the store for his internal hearing. The suspect allegedly produced a firearm and shot three people who were declared dead at the scene. A manhunt for the suspect is underway,” he said.
