Presidency Reacts To Trending Video Of Ex-Power Minister Adelabu Asking Nigerians To Reject Tinubu, APC In 2027

The Presidency has reacted to a trending video purportedly showing former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, asking Nigerians to reject President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, shared the reaction on X, describing the report as fake news and accusing opposition elements of manipulating an old recording to spread misinformation.

“Adebayo Adelabu did not say Nigerians should reject the APC nationwide. The opposition is manipulating an old audio recording and spreading false information. A simple fact check should have cleared the air,” Onanuga wrote.

In a statement issued by Adelabu’s media office in October 2026, the former minister also denied calling on Nigerians to reject the ruling party, describing the viral report as false, malicious and intended to undermine his relationship with Tinubu and the APC leadership.

The statement clarified that the video was an excerpt from an interview Adelabu granted in 2022 when he was the governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State.

According to the statement, Adelabu had argued during the interview that political parties had disappointed Nigerians and that voters should consider the credibility and character of individual candidates when making electoral choices.

It maintained that his remarks were made in the context of the 2022 political environment and did not amount to a call for Nigerians to reject the APC or oppose Tinubu’s presidency.

“Adelabu has neither renounced his loyalty to the President nor called on Nigerians to reject the APC. Those peddling such claims should produce verifiable evidence of the alleged statement rather than seek to manufacture controversy through falsehood,” the statement said.

The former minister’s media office also addressed tensions surrounding the APC governorship nomination process in Oyo State, alleging that the exercise was marred by controversy over the purported imposition of a preferred aspirant and the failure to transparently release the primary election results.

Despite the reported grievances, the statement insisted that Adelabu had repeatedly declared his intention to remain in the APC and maintained his loyalty to Tinubu.

It added that his demand for fairness, transparency and internal democracy should not be interpreted as disloyalty to the party.

The media office challenged those circulating the video to publish the full, unedited interview to establish the context of Adelabu’s remarks. It also urged Nigerians and media organisations to verify information before sharing politically sensitive claims.

Onanuga’s intervention comes amid growing political exchanges ahead of the 2027 general election, with the APC and opposition figures frequently trading accusations over public policies, party loyalty and campaign narratives.

The reaction from the Presidency and Adelabu’s media office seeks to counter the claim that the former minister urged Nigerians to vote against the ruling party, insisting that the viral recording had been taken out of context.
