Manchester United Midfielder Officially Suspended for Next Match
According to a report by Manchesterevening News on Monday October 12, 2026, Manchester United midfielder Jacob Devaney is facing a suspension after receiving a red card during Hibernian’s 1-0 defeat against Dundee United, adding another setback to his developing senior career.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are preparing for Tuesday’s Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid, with manager Michael Carrick already dealing with several injury concerns following their disappointing Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
United struggled to take advantage of their numerical superiority against Tottenham, failing to produce the attacking creativity needed to secure victory despite their opponents having a player sent off during the match.
The performance frustrated supporters, with many believing Carrick’s team were fortunate to collect a point. Questions about United’s consistency have continued, increasing pressure on the manager ahead of their European assignment.
Their preparations have also been complicated by several absences. Benjamin Sesko remains unavailable with a shin injury, while Patrick Dorgu faces an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring problem.
Manuel Ugarte is recovering from cruciate ligament surgery, while goalkeeper Tom Heaton and defender Matthijs de Ligt have also been listed among the players expected to miss the Atletico encounter.
However, another United midfielder has suffered a disciplinary setback while gaining experience away from Old Trafford.
Devaney, 19, was dismissed during Hibernian’s defeat against Dundee United on Saturday after coming on as an 80th-minute substitute in the Scottish Premiership fixture.
According to Hibernian’s official match report, the midfielder initially received a yellow card for bringing down Neil Farrugia, with the referee awarding Dundee United a penalty.
Following a VAR review, referee Don Robertson upgraded the booking to a straight red card and overturned the penalty decision, awarding a free kick instead.
The dismissal means Devaney must serve a suspension, although Hibernian have yet to confirm how many matches he will miss following the incident.
The youngster joined Hibernian on a season-long loan in August, with the Scottish club reportedly holding an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the agreement.
Devaney previously gained valuable experience during a loan spell at St Mirren and also captained Manchester United’s Under-21 team, demonstrating his leadership qualities within the club’s youth setup.
He additionally caught attention during pre-season after scoring in Manchester United’s 5-0 victory over Rosenborg in July, strengthening hopes that he could progress further in senior football.
The suspension represents an unwelcome interruption to his development, as the young midfielder attempts to establish himself at senior level and make the most of his loan opportunity in Scotland.
