Elizabeth Moselakgomo’s smartwatch ‘sold for R900’ within 24 hrs of her disappearance
Three suspects linked to the smartwatch worn by murdered Kempton Park runner, Elizabeth 'Tsontso' Moselakgomo, appeared before the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Monday.
They are Kenneth Chibuzor, Stephen Mahlakwane Sekhukhune and Danial Anthony Moat.
Moselakgomo’s body was discovered in Rhodesfield on 12 September 2026.
She was last seen alive on 09 September 2026, after leaving her home for a run.
It is alleged that her smartwatch was acquired less than 24 hours after she was last seen and was later sold and resold by the accused.
"Chibuzor faces charges relating to contraventions of the Second-Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009, money laundering, theft, alternatively possession of goods reasonably suspected to have been stolen, or receiving stolen property without reasonable cause to believe that the transferor was entitled to dispose of it," said National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole.
Sekhukhune and Moat face charges of money laundering and theft, alternatively possession of or receiving stolen property.
The State alleges that Chibuzor, who runs a second-hand shop in Kempton Park, bought the smartwatch for R900 from an unidentified person without obtaining and recording the required identification details and transaction particulars as prescribed by law.
According to the State’s case, Chibuzor sold the smartwatch to Sekhukhune on 10 September 2026.
"On the same day, Sekhukhune allegedly registered the smartwatch to his Gmail account after the deceased’s profile information and settings had been erased. He subsequently sold the device to Moat for R4,000," Mohlatlole added.
Moat later advertised the smartwatch on social media and sold it for R4 000 to a fourth individual.
The fourth individual has not been enrolled as an accused due to insufficient evidence linking them to the alleged offences.
The matter was postponed to 19 October 2026 for the bail application of Chibuzor.
The court also ordered that his immigration status be verified, as he is a Nigerian citizen.
