Selma Blair arrested after alleged outburst on plane results in injured police officers, nurses
LEAVE A COMMENT Selma Blair has been arrested following an in-flight incident.
On Sunday, October 11, the Legally Blonde actress allegedly attempted to open the aircraft door while the plane was in the air on its way to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, leading to a confrontation with crew members.
She allegedly punched a flight attendant and bit another on the Delta Airlines flight, after which she was arrested and taken to the hospital. HELLO! has reached out to her team for comment.
According to TMZ, one of the flight attendants sustained a laceration and the other a bite. Selma, 54, was put in restraints on the plane and arrested upon landing.
In the ambulance en route to the hospital, law enforcement claims she repeatedly kicked a Port Authority police officer in the head, and when the ambulance reached the hospital, she allegedly assaulted a nurse, who has pressed charges.
The State has since charged Selma with two counts of assault, one on a police officer and another on a nurse. Selma remains in the hospital for evaluation as of writing, and the FBI has commenced an investigation into the incident.
In a statement to TMZ, Selma's team claimed the incident was a result of a medical emergency, though it remains unclear what it was or what caused it. "Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."
A spokesperson for Delta also told Page Six: "Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first," adding there was "no operational impact to the flight as the flight landed ahead of schedule at JFK." The flight was coming in from LAX in Los Angeles.
Selma, who has been living with multiple sclerosis since 2018, last had a public appearance on October 1, attending the ADL State of the Arts: An Evening at The Jewish Museum event in New York City.
This is not her first on-air incident; in 2016, she was also arrested on a Delta flight. She was removed from the aircraft on a stretcher while traveling with her then four-year-old son after she "had a total psychotic blackout."
At the time, she blamed the incident on drinking a glass of wine and taking a pill, saying: "It was horrible and frightening and I had empathy for myself actually afterwards because it was actually so out of character for me, especially because I'm a mother."
