They Used Black Stars to Steal Gh¢30k From Us – Angry Ghanaians Expose GFA, NLA and Kofi Atta Mills
A group of angry Ghanaians has come forward to accuse the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the National Lottery Authority (NLA) of stealing their money through a fake World Cup visa scheme.
The group specifically mentioned Kofi Atta Mills as one of the people involved in the deal.
According to the victims, they were promised a chance to travel to the 2026 in America, Canada and Mexico to support the Black Stars. The scheme was introduced to them as a World Cup lottery.
They were told to pay Gh¢20 per ticket for a chance to be selected. They were told the whole process was official and supervised by the NLA using a certified random machine, so they believed it was genuine.
After buying the lottery tickets, they were asked to pay more money for visa processing and travel arrangements. Some say they paid Gh¢15,000. One victim claims he paid as much as Gh¢30,000.
But months after paying, no visa came. No ticket came. No refund came.
“We paid for a dream, they gave us heartbreak. They used Black Stars to steal from us,” one victim said angrily.
The group is now demanding that the police arrest everyone involved and make them refund the money.
This new complaint is coming at a time when Ghana is already facing a bigger World Cup visa scandal. The US Embassy’s Fraud Prevention Unit has reportedly flagged several visa applicants linked to the National Sports Authority (NSA) over fake job titles and false documents.
Parliament has also heard that some applicants were charged $8,000 to $9,000 for a visa, even though the official fee was supposed to be $3,000 for the US and $2,000 for Canada.
The Sports Ministry and the Ghana Tourism Authority have denied collecting any money from applicants.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has directed the suspended NSA Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, to step aside to allow the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate the allegations.
For the victims, they say they do not care about the big politics. They just want their money back and justice to be served.
