Mahama Reveals What A Prophet Told Him That Made Him Lose Hope

President John Dramani Mahama has recalled a difficult period in his political journey when he nearly lost hope of returning to power, despite a prophet’s prediction that he would become President again.

Mahama’s story highlights the challenges he faced after losing the 2016 presidential election and his determination to continue his political journey.

After leaving office in January 2017, Mahama remained a key figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC). However, his return to the presidency was not guaranteed, as he had to overcome political pressure, criticism and the uncertainty surrounding his future.

According to Mahama, there was a time when he struggled to believe that he would ever return to the highest office in the country. The prophet’s prediction about his political future became an important part of the story he shared about that period.

Mahama eventually returned to contest the 2020 presidential election but lost to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Despite that setback, he continued to lead the NDC and prepared for another attempt at the presidency.

His efforts finally paid off in the December 7, 2024, general election, when he defeated then Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to secure another term as President of Ghana. He was sworn into office on January 7, 2025.

Mahama’s recollection has drawn attention to the uncertainty that can surround political careers, particularly when setbacks make future success appear difficult.

The story also raises questions about the role of faith and prophetic messages in the lives of public figures. While some people see such predictions as sources of encouragement during difficult moments, others believe political outcomes depend mainly on leadership, public support and the decisions voters make.

For Mahama, the journey from losing power in 2016 to returning to the presidency in 2025 represents a major chapter in his political career.

His account of the prophet’s prediction offers a glimpse into the doubts and challenges he says he experienced before his eventual return to power.
