“I’ve never faced a striker like him” — Ex-Torino defender heaps praise on Super Eagles star

Schuurs made the comments after struggling to contain Arokodare during Ajax’s 1-1 draw with NEC Nijmegen. The 25-year-old Nigerian impressed with his physical strength and aerial ability, scoring a superb header at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

The Dutch defender, who spent four years in the Eredivisie before moving to Italy with Torino, explained that Arokodare offers a different challenge from most strikers he has faced, including Romelu Lukaku.

“I had never come up against a striker like that. And in Italy, you do not often see this type either,” Schuurs said, explaining that Arokodare frequently looks to receive the ball on his chest or in the air.

Arokodare is currently on a season-long loan at Ajax from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the Dutch club holding an option to make the move permanent.

His goal against NEC took his tally to seven goals and two assists in 10 competitive appearances across the league and UEFA Conference League, underlining his impressive start in Amsterdam.
