Top Govt Official That Was In The Chopper That Crashed In Kericho

A helicopter has crashed at the Kericho Golf Club in Kericho County, and Environment Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno was among the passengers on board. The accident happened on Monday afternoon as heavy rains were being experienced in the area.

According to Kericho County Police Commander Kivindu Kilonzo, no deaths have been reported. Several people in the helicopter were injured, though the police commander did not say how many or how serious their injuries are. Citizen Digital established that Ng’eno was one of the passengers, but his condition has not been shared in the details available.

It is not yet clear what caused the crash. The heavy rain in the area has been mentioned as the weather at the time, but investigators have not said whether it played a role. The number of people on board and the name of the operator have also not been made public.

The incident comes less than two weeks after a helicopter crash in Marondera, Zimbabwe, killed businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy Muteke and three others. That accident left many people alarmed about air travel in bad weather, and Monday’s crash has renewed those worries.

The Kenya Meteorological Department had earlier forecast rainfall across several parts of the country, including Kericho, for the week of October 9 to 16, and warned of isolated storms. Aviation authorities usually investigate such accidents to establish what happened and to recommend safety measures.

Kenyans online have wished the PS and the others quick recovery, with many thanking God that nobody died. Some asked authorities to give regular updates on the condition of the injured and to share the findings of the investigation once it is complete.
