Meet Top Govt Official Who Was Inside Helicopter That Crashed In Kericho Today

A Kenya Forest Service (KFS) helicopter carrying five people crashed at Kericho Golf Club on Monday, October 12, 2026, leaving the occupants uninjured.

The aircraft, registration number 5Y-FSK, reportedly crashed while attempting to take off, losing altitude before gaining significant height.

Environment Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno was reported to be among those on board, although the circumstances surrounding his presence on the helicopter were not immediately detailed.

Kericho County Police Commander Kivindu Kilonzo said the helicopter lost altitude shortly after take-off before crashing onto the golf club’s grassy grounds.

The incident attracted the attention of emergency responders, security officers and members of the public who gathered at the scene.

Images from the crash site showed the green-and-white helicopter severely damaged, with its tail section detached from the main body of the aircraft.

The Kenya Forest Service confirmed that the helicopter belonged to the agency and that all five occupants had survived without injuries.

Emergency teams and security personnel were assessing the scene as authorities prepared to establish the circumstances that led to the accident.

Further details were expected as investigations into the incident progressed.

The Kericho crash comes less than two months after another helicopter accident near Mount Ololokwe in Samburu County on August 19, 2026.

That incident claimed the lives of all seven people aboard the aircraft. Investigators reported that a landing skid struck a rock during a turn near the summit, causing the helicopter to lose control and catch fire.

Authorities are expected to establish what caused the KFS helicopter to lose altitude during take-off in Kericho and whether mechanical failure or other factors contributed to the crash.
