The Block delivered some A-grade drama on Monday night as one team was almost sent packing.

Queenslanders Courtney and Sev were raked over the coals when their budget on House 4 blew out by $25,000.

The best mates planned an $86,000 splurge on their backyard renovation, installing a pizza oven, fireplace, outdoor shower, outdoor fridge and wine cellar.

The expense would drain the entire remaining budget in the bank account, but it turns out the lofty plans would cost even more than that.

Landscaper Troy Lovett quoted the pair $125,000, which came to a whopping $25,000 over the $100,000 estimate.

The cost gave the team pause, before attracting the attention of the show’s executive producer.

‘I realised there were a few too many splurges, blowouts, and assumptions being made,’ Sev confessed.

Realising they were in trouble, Sev tearfully cancelled the wine cellar – only to change her mind and decide the gamble was worth it.

Unfortunately The Block executive producer Julian Cress did not agree, and was forced to step in.

‘Don’t buy anything extra that you can’t afford,’ the stern show boss warned the pair.

‘We will disqualify you if you put stuff in that you can’t afford.’

With that threat on board, the friends managed to scramble and shave $18,000 from their overspend.

There has been all manner of drama on The Block in recent weeks, with two contestants revealing that one team had permanently removed themselves from the group chat.

The shock admission came just days after Chantel and Wyatt were conspicuously absent from Nine’s 2027 Upfront in Sydney, as the remaining contestants posed together on the photo wall.

Adam and Jolene, Lisa and Rosco, Courtney and Sev, and Rick and Tayla all attended the event alongside The Block hosts Scott Cam and Shelley Craft and judge Shaynna Blaze.

But fitness-loving couple Chantel and Wyatt were nowhere to be seen.

Fellow Blockheads Rosco and Lisa offered a shock assessment about the state of the group, admitting not everyone was on good terms with their co-stars.

‘Four out of five houses are talking. Well, four out of five houses are talking in the group chat,’ Rosco told Pedestrian.TV.

Rosco’s wife Lisa then jumped in with a pointed remark.

‘Most of the houses are friendly,’ she said.

Rosco added that the unscripted nature of the popular reality TV show had led to some heated clashes.

‘Nothing’s scripted. You get backed into a corner, and sometimes the only way out is to fight your way out of that, and that can come across in all different sorts of ways,’ he said.
