Off-Duty Police Officer Kills Three Women Before Taking His Own Life

Three women were killed and a man was wounded in a shooting at a tavern in KwaZulu-Natal in the early hours of Saturday. An off-duty police constable allegedly opened fire and also died in the incident.

It happened in the Nkodibe area of KwaMsane, where police went to the tavern after reports of gunfire. According to preliminary information, officers arrived and found four people with gunshot wounds. The constable was among those who had died, and three women were also reportedly killed.

The fourth victim, a man who was shot, was rushed to hospital for treatment. His condition has not been made public.

It is also alleged that the off-duty constable took a firearm from another man during the incident. Both firearms were recovered at the scene, and they could prove important as investigators try to piece together what happened.

Police have not yet explained what led to the shooting or what took place before the violence began. The motive has not been established, and the names of the people who died have not been released. Investigators will need to find out whether the recovered firearms were used in the shooting, in what order the victims were shot and what sparked the confrontation.

The involvement of a serving police officer has added a troubling dimension to the case. In total, four people lost their lives, including the constable.

Police investigations are continuing, and officers are expected to work out exactly what happened inside or around the tavern. Further information is awaited.
