Islamabad IG directs officials to ensure no containers remain visible on any main road by evening
Authorities have launched an operation to remove containers placed across the federal capital, where more than 1,200 containers have remained positioned at key locations for 24 days.
The Islamabad police inspector general (IG) has directed officials to clear the main thoroughfares, ordering that no containers should remain visible on any major road by this evening.
The containers were brought into Islamabad on October 19 in anticipation of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march.
Since then, containers have been stationed at all entry points to the federal capital, along major highways and in the Red Zone to restrict movement and block routes whenever required.
Over 1,200 containers have been placed along roadsides at strategic locations across Islamabad. The barriers were intended to be used as needed to block roads and restrict access during the anticipated political march.
With the removal operation now underway, authorities are working to clear the containers after more than three weeks of restrictions and obstructions on key routes.
The Islamabad IG’s directive sets this evening as the deadline for ensuring that no containers remain visible on any main thoroughfare in the capital.
