Dinesh Karthik Hails Abhishek Sharma as ‘World Superpower Opener’ After Consistent T20 Performances
Abhishek underlined his attacking credentials on Sunday, smashing 69 off just 30 deliveries in the third T20 International against the West Indies at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. His innings laid the foundation for India to post a formidable total of 223 runs.
The knock also saw Abhishek complete 2,000 runs in T20 Internationals, becoming the fastest batter to reach the milestone in terms of balls faced, according to the supplied report. Guided by former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, the opener has established himself as a major threat for opposition teams with his ability to score heavily against different attacks and in varied conditions.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Karthik credited Yuvraj’s guidance and Abhishek’s growing understanding of how to pace an innings while maintaining his aggressive approach.
“He’s learning from the best, and you can see how he’s able to pace innings,” Karthik said, explaining that Abhishek understands the importance of maximising the powerplay while developing a method that allows him to succeed consistently.
Karthik said opposition teams now recognise Abhishek as a key wicket to take early, given the damage he can inflict if allowed to settle.
He also highlighted the batter’s performances against strong opponents and in high-pressure matches, saying that sustaining an attacking approach while producing runs regularly is one of the toughest challenges in T20 cricket.
According to Karthik, Abhishek has combined his natural power with better game awareness. He cited the opener’s approach against West Indies off-spinner Roston Chase, noting that Abhishek initially assessed the pitch before shifting gears and attacking.
Karthik said Abhishek’s ability to take calculated risks while maintaining consistency has helped establish him among the leading T20 batters in the world.
