I Left My Ex-Husband Because We Both Have AS Genotype and I Didn’t Want SS Children — Asantewaa

Ghanaian TikToker Asantewaa has revealed that concerns about sickle cell disease and disagreements over adoption contributed to her decision to end her marriage to her estranged husband, Jeffery Obiri Yeboah.

Asantewaa explained that she and Obiri both have the AS genotype, which influenced her decision because she did not want to risk having children with the SS genotype.

“I respect my ex-husband so much, but Mr Obiri and I were both AS, and I didn’t want my children to be SS, which is why I broke up with him,” she said.

The social media personality explained that her decision was based on her concerns about the possible health implications for their future children, adding that the issue played a significant role in her choice to leave the relationship.

When both parents have the AS genotype, each pregnancy carries a 25 per cent chance of producing a child with the SS genotype, a 50 per cent chance of producing a child with the AS genotype and a 25 per cent chance of producing a child with the AA genotype.

Beyond their concerns about having biological children, Asantewaa disclosed that she and her former husband had different views on adoption, which became another point of disagreement between them.

She stated that Obiri wanted them to consider adopting children, but she was not willing to pursue that option, indicating that they did not share the same expectations about starting a family.

“He wanted us to adopt, but I didn’t want that,” she explained.

Asantewaa also claimed that she had been separated from Obiri for three years before their marital situation became publicly known, alleging that he had not informed members of his family about their separation.

“For three years, I wasn’t with him anymore; I had left him, but he didn’t want to tell his family members,” she said.

Her account suggests that the separation had taken place long before it became a subject of public discussion, although she maintains that her former husband had not communicated the situation to his relatives.

The TikToker’s disclosure comes amid public exchanges involving her and rapper AMG Armani, with both parties making claims about aspects of their relationship.

Armani has addressed their relationship through his song titled Thanks, in which he made claims about how the relationship began, while Asantewaa has also spoken about her own experiences.

The latest explanation from Asantewaa centres on her decision to leave her marriage, with concerns about their genotypes and their disagreement over adoption forming the main reasons she has publicly given for the separation.
