Kofi Adams: We Are Worried About The Performance Of The Black Star
Sports Minister Kofi Adams during an interview on GH One Tv on Sunday October 11, 2026 expressed concern over the performance of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, insisting that the challenges confronting the team go beyond what happens on the pitch.
According to him, Ghana’s football problems are deeply rooted in structural weaknesses that require serious attention from both football administrators and other stakeholders in the sporting sector.
Speaking about the current state of the national team, Kofi Adams acknowledged the growing concerns surrounding the Black Stars’ performances and stressed the need for a comprehensive assessment of the factors affecting their competitiveness.
He explained that the situation cannot be resolved by focusing solely on the players or the technical team, as broader issues within the football system also contribute to the difficulties facing the country’s flagship national team.
In his remarks, the Sports Minister stated, “We’re worried about Black Stars’ performance. The issue with our football is structural, involving both leadership and talent.”
His comments highlight concerns about the management of Ghanaian football and the need to examine how the sport is organised, administered and developed at different levels.
Adams’ assessment suggests that addressing the Black Stars’ struggles will require more than short-term interventions or changes in personnel. Instead, he has drawn attention to the importance of
strengthening the structures that support football development, including leadership, talent identification and the nurturing of players capable of competing at the highest level.
The minister’s comments also bring renewed attention to the responsibilities of football administrators in creating an environment that allows players and coaches to perform effectively.
Strong leadership, effective planning and a sustainable talent-development system are essential components of building a national team that can consistently meet the expectations of supporters.
The Black Stars remain one of Ghana’s most celebrated sporting institutions, with a rich history of achievements on the African continent and appearances at the FIFA World Cup.
However, expectations remain high among Ghanaians, who want to see the team return to consistent performances and challenge strongly in major competitions.
