According to a report by TV3 Ghana on Sunday October 11, 2026, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has clarified the role of a purse holder during the FIFA World Cup, describing the position as that of an accountant responsible for handling financial matters for the ministry during the tournament.

According to the minister, the purse holder plays an important role in managing financial transactions and ensuring that expenses related to the team’s participation in the competition are properly handled.

Kofi Adams also disclosed the amount paid to the purse holder during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, revealing that the individual received GH₵120,000 for the tournament.

The minister revealed that the purse holder received $10,000 during the 2022 tournament. In addition to that amount, the individual was also paid an appearance fee of $50,000.

This means that the purse holder received a total of $60,000 in the two payments disclosed by the minister for the 2022 World Cup.
