Motorcycle collision with deer leaves one dead, two seriously injured

CLAYTON COUNTY, Iowa — Authorities say one person was killed and two others were injured after a motorcycle vs. deer collision in eastern Iowa.

The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office says shortly after 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, deputies were dispatched to Garber Road, west of Kennedy Road, on reports of a crash involving multiple motorcycles with injuries.

Authorities say the investigation determined three motorcycles were traveling eastbound on Garber Road when a white-tailed deer entered the roadway. The sheriff’s office says the lead motorcycle struck the deer, while the second bike took evasive action but lost control. The third motorcycle was able to avoid the collision.

The sheriff’s office says the first motorcycle was occupied by two individuals. The driver was seriously injured and airlifted to the hospital, and the second driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

The second bike was occupied by one driver who sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. Neither the driver nor the passenger on the third motorcycle was injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. The names of those involved are not being released at this time, pending notification of family members.
