Driver from Odessa involved in rollover crash in Presidio County

PRESIDIO COUNTY, Texas (KOSA) – A 22-year-old driver fell asleep behind the wheel and ended up crashing their car into a creek, said the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to a single-car rollover accident around 2:00 A.M. on Saturday morning just one mile south of Shafter.

Joel Nuñez Jr. with the sheriff’s office reported that the car, a Toyota Corolla, left the road and ended up in Cibolo Creek.

The driver was able to get out of the car and then walk to Shafter to call 911 for help.

Presidio EMS and Texas State Troopers responded to the scene. The driver reportedly sustained minor injuries but complained of back pain.

Preliminary information indicates the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Nuñez is now urging drivers that fatigue can be just as dangerous as other forms of impaired driving. He said if you feel tired or drowsy behind the wheel, then pull over and find a place to rest.

This accident remains under investigation.
