TVC News has been named Best Television Station (National) at the 2026 Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA), while two of its anchors, Nifemi Oguntoye and Riyal Abdul won individual honours at the ceremony in Lagos.

Oguntoye won the Best Male Newscaster of the Year, while Abdul won Best TV News Reporter, adding to the station’s recognition at the awards.

Reacting to his award, Oguntoye said, “It is an acknowledgement of hard work. It is an acknowledgement of the work done here at TVC News and the quality of leadership that we have. If you look at the nomination list, there were quite a number of TVC News personnel who made it. It is another feather in our crowded crown. It is a time of gratitude to the leadership of TVC News and our colleagues who have done the work over the years.”

Abdul dedicated her award to the station and its Chief Executive Officer, Victoria Ajayi.

“This one is for TVC and my CEO, Mrs. Victoria Ajayi. Thank you for the platform and the opportunity. God bless you, Ma. Thank you!” she said.

TVC News Director, Babajide Kolade Otitoju, also congratulated the award recipients and urged them to maintain their performance and continue developing their skills.

“I am proud of you guys. Keep soaring higher. Remember the reward for one award is more hardwork and invention,” he stated.

The station’s recognition extended beyond the NBMA ceremony, with its Bayelsa correspondent, Joseph Kunde, winning Economy Reporter of the Year at the Bayelsa Media Awards in Yenagoa.

The NBMA award for Best Television Station (National) was attributed by the organisers to professional excellence, national reach, programming quality, innovation in news presentation and contributions to democracy and public enlightenment.

The latest awards recognise the station’s impact in news reporting and analysis, highlighting the importance of professionalism, credibility and consistency in broadcast journalism.
