Gabriel Jesus silences critics and repays Hansi Flick’s faith with clinical Barcelona display

According to a report by GOAL on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Gabriel Jesus has made a strong impression at Barcelona after scoring on his first start for the club in their 3-0 victory over Getafe. The Brazilian striker took advantage of his opportunity and received praise from manager Hansi Flick for his performance.

Jesus was included in the starting lineup after Raphinha suffered a thigh injury. The former Arsenal forward responded with a composed display that demonstrated his attacking ability and understanding of Flick’s playing style.

Jesus found the net after pressing Getafe’s defence, winning possession and moving into space before beating goalkeeper David Soria. His goal highlighted his sharp movement and ability to take advantage of opportunities in front of goal.

Flick was pleased with the Brazilian’s contribution and praised his finishing ability after the match. “Gabriel is a fantastic player, with a different profile to Raphinha, and that shows,” the Barcelona manager said, according to the report. He also highlighted Jesus’ ability to select the right shooting angle and expressed satisfaction with the striker’s performance.

Beyond scoring, Jesus helped Barcelona maintain pressure on their opponents, occasionally moved into midfield and contributed defensively when possession was lost. These efforts demonstrated his willingness to fulfil the different responsibilities required in Flick’s tactical system.

The report states that the 29-year-old has scored three goals from his first three shots on target for Barcelona, despite having limited playing time. He reportedly joined the Catalan club for €10 million. With Raphinha unavailable, Jesus could provide Barcelona with another attacking option. His latest performance may strengthen his chances of earning more starts as the team prepares to face Galatasaray in the Champions League.
