BAT:I Was Told I’d Be A Minister, 4 Days To The Announcement, I Was Told My Name Wasn’t There-Lawani

Chief Steven Lawani has revealed that he was promised a ministerial position after helping President Bola Tinubu win Benue State during the 2023 presidential election, but was informed that his name was missing from the list four days before the announcement.

Lawani made this known during an interview on Trust TV, where he spoke about his role in the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign in Benue State.

He explained that Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, had asked him to help lead Tinubu’s campaign in the state. According to Lawani, he was on holiday in Dubai when he received the request but returned to Nigeria to take charge of the campaign for several months.

When asked whether he was rewarded for his efforts, Lawani said he had expected to become a minister after being promised the position. He added that he had thanked the authorities who assured him that he would be appointed.

However, Lawani said he was contacted four days before the announcement of ministerial appointments and informed that his name was no longer on the list.

He said he accepted the development, even though it was disappointing, adding that a similar situation had prevented him from becoming governor at the state level.

In his words, “I was told I would be a minister, and I looked forward to that. And thanked the authorities who told me that, but three or four days to the announcement, I was called upon and told my name was not there.”
