CA Names 21 TV Stations at Risk of Losing Broadcasting Licences
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has issued a seven-day notice to 21 broadcasters, directing them to wind down their operations following a decision to revoke their licences.
The notice, published in the Kenya Gazette on Friday, October 9, 2026, was signed by CA Director-General and Chief Executive Officer David Mugonyi. It cites the Kenya Information and Communications Act as the legal basis for the decision.
According to the notice, the affected broadcasters will no longer be permitted to operate or offer services covered by their licences once the revocations take effect. Any spectrum and resources assigned under the licences will also revert to the regulator.
The affected operators include several commercial free-to-air television stations, among them Holy Spirit’s TV, WTV, Ngoyoo TV, Nene TV, Assemblies of God Kenya Television Network, Bethsaida Television and Greater Life Television.
Other stations listed in the notice include Madaras TV, Riigi TV, Mountain of Peace TV, Mshindi TV, Revival Wave TV, Kim Kim TV, Technique View Television, New Breed Connect TV, Shem TV, Ikengi TV, Thespy TV, Engako Television Network and Wendo TV.
The notice also covers two licensees whose licences are being terminated following their own requests.
Landmerc Limited, which operates Tandaza FM, is among those affected. Moreplex Television Limited is also listed, with its Moreplex TV Kenya service holding licences covering terrestrial subscription, SMS and landing rights.
The decision affects different broadcasting and communication categories, including commercial free-to-air television, commercial FM radio, terrestrial subscription services, SMS and landing rights.
The seven-day period gives the affected operators a limited window before the revocations take effect.
The regulator’s notice outlines the consequences of the decision, although the reasons behind each individual licence revocation were not detailed in the information provided.
