The moment happened in Goaso, Ahafo Region, on Saturday, October 10, 2026. It took place during the President’s Resetting Ghana Tour.

In a video shared by Khoded Media, the young man stood among a crowd and took the microphone. Instead of asking for a favour or a policy, he asked to shake the President’s hand. President Mahama granted the request. The young man then walked to the stage, where the two shared a warm handshake. Many users said the young man appeared deeply moved.

The video drew hundreds of comments on Facebook. Many users described the scene as emotional and touching. One commenter said the love shown by the young man was very deep. Another said the moment was the fulfilment of a long-held dream.

Humour also filled the comment section. One user joked that she would never wash her hands again if she were him. Another said she would not bathe for a month. A few people wondered why he did not use the opportunity to ask for something bigger.

Some commenters defended the young man. One said everyone has someone they admire, just as some fans become overwhelmed at the sound of their favourite musician’s voice. However, not everyone was impressed. One user said it is not new for a President to shake hands with ordinary Ghanaians. Another asked whether such a gesture was safe for security reasons.

The reactions show how a small act can mean a great deal to one person. For this young man, a handshake with the President was a dream come true. For many Ghanaians online, it was a moment worth sharing.
