Pistol Recovered as Detectives Arrest Suspect in Kirinyaga

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested a suspect and recovered a Retay Falcon pistol in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested a suspect and recovered a Retay Falcon pistol in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County.

In a post on Sunday, October 11, DCI said the suspect was nabbed at an entertainment joint following a tip-off from members of the public.

The officers moved swiftly into the joint and arrested the 27-year-old suspect identified as Jamleck Kariuki.

“A timely tip-off from members of the public has led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a Retay Falcon pistol at Club Cluster in Piai, Mwea East, Kirinyaga County.

“Responding to the tip-off, officers from Itangi Police Station swiftly moved in and arrested a 27-year-old man, Jamleck Kariuki Grace,” DCI said.

The sleuths searched the suspect and recovered the pistol tucked on the right side of his waist with one live round in the pistol chamber.

The DCI detectives also recovered two spent cartridges from the suspect.

“A search of the suspect yielded a Retay Falcon pistol tucked on the right side of his waist, with one live round lodged in the pistol’s chamber. Also recovered were two spent cartridges,” DCI added.

The suspect is in custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding his possession of the firearm.

Further, the investigative agency commended members of the public for sharing timely intelligence with law enforcement officers.

“Such cooperation remains vital in identifying potential threats, preventing crime and keeping communities safe,” DCI added.

This comes weeks after detectives arrested a police impostor following a sting operation at Yaya Centre in Kilimani.

In a statement DCI said sleuths arrested the suspect, Kiplangat Chepkwony, while responding to a distress call from a casino operating in the mall.

They traced the suspect to a vehicle he was using, where they arrested him and recovered an assortment of police-related items, including a pistol.

“A search conducted during the arrest led to the recovery of a CZ 75 SP-01 pistol, an empty 9mm magazine, a pair of handcuffs, a fake Certificate of Appointment (COA) identifying him as a police constable, and a fake firearm certificate,” the statement read in part.

DCI officers interrogated the suspect briefly before they extended the search to his house in Dagoretti North Constituency, where they recovered more rounds of ammunition.

“The suspect led officers to his rented house in Waluku Village, Dagoretti North, where detectives recovered 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition packed in two boxes, each containing 50 rounds,” the Directorate confirmed.
