A First Alert Sunday

A First Alert Sunday

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Sunday’s First Alert Weather Day brings a slight chance of an isolated heavy downpours, which could create ponding or flash flooding of low-lying areas. And this is the last day of the current stretch of cloudy and stormy days. Much drier air returns after a cold front moves south across Florida overnight.

Sunny skies and lower humidity start the work week. Another front comes to Florida to end the week, meaning thunderstorms could develop again by Friday.

The Atlantic is being monitored, and there’s an area of low pressure centered about 100 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands producing showers and thunderstorms. While some development is possible over the next couple of days, upper-level winds will become too strong for significant development by midweek. The formation chance remains low at 10 percent through 48 hours and 20 percent through 7 days. For the Suncoast, this system poses no threat at this time, but we’ll continue to monitor it.

🎾 Sunday Sports Forecast – Tennis, Pickleball & Golf

Sunday is going to be challenging for outdoor sports on the Suncoast. With showers and thunderstorms possible in the morning and afternoon, courts will likely be wet and play will be interrupted. If you have matches or tee times scheduled, have an indoor backup plan ready. Just keep your phone handy and stay weather-aware—lightning is a real threat with these storms.

🏖️ Sunday Beach Forecast – Morning and Afternoon Thunderstorms

Rip Current Risk: High Lightning Risk: High

First Alert weather even at the Beach! Sunday is not a great Beach Day with numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms possible throughout the day. There’s also a high risk of rip currents, so be extra cautious in the water. The moderate thunderstorm potential means lightning is possible, so keep an eye on the sky and off the beach if storms approach. Winds will be average, starting from the southwest around 10 mph before shifting northwest in the afternoon. It’s a day where the beach is accessible, but you need to stay alert and respect the water.

Thunderstorms will make this a challenging day on the waters.

SUNDAY: If you’re heading out on the water, use caution today. Southwest winds will start around 10 to 15 knots before shifting to the northwest at 5 to 10 knots this afternoon. Seas will be running 3 to 5 feet, occasionally reaching 6 feet, especially over the northeastern Gulf waters. Expect widespread showers this morning with scattered thunderstorms and showers in the afternoon. Bay and inland waters will have a moderate chop.

MONDAY: Conditions improve significantly. North winds will be 10 to 15 knots with gusts up to 20 knots, and seas will drop to 2 to 3 feet. Bay and inland waters will still have a moderate chop, but overall conditions are much more manageable than Sunday.

TUESDAY: More of the same good news. North winds remain 10 to 15 knots, and seas will be around 2 feet. It’s a solid day to be on the water with moderate chop in the bays and inland areas.

WEDNESDAY: Conditions continue to improve. Northeast winds will be lighter at 5 to 10 knots, seas around 2 feet in the morning dropping to 1 foot or less later in the day. Bay and inland waters will have just a light chop. This is shaping up to be one of the nicest days of the week for boating.
