INTERPOL deletes Red Notice against Ken Ofori-Atta over political concerns
Former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta
The International Criminal Police Organization has permanently removed a Red Notice issued against Ghanaâs former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, following a review by its oversight body.
Lawyers for Ofori-Atta disclosed on Friday, February 13, 2026 in a statement that the Commission for the Control of INTERPOLâs Files (CCF) had communicated its decision to expunge the alert from the organisationâs database.
According to a statement signed by his lead counsel, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo of the law firm Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners, the CCF concluded that the request for the former ministerâs arrest appeared to be predominantly political in nature and did not meet INTERPOLâs neutrality requirements.
The decision was reportedly taken during the CCFâs 135th session held on February 4, 2026, after a review of materials submitted by Ghanaâs INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB).
âWe are pleased to announce that, today, February 13, 2026, the Commission for The Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) has notified Kenneth Ofori-Atta that on February 4, 2026 during its 135th Session, it determined that the Red Notice issued against Ofori-Atta “appears of a predominantly political character” and is non- compliant with INTERPOL’s rules, and shall be deleted from INTERPOL’s files permanently.

âSpecifically, CCF stated that: “After a thorough examination of the elements before it, the commission found that the challenged data registered by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ghana were not compliant with INTERPOL’s rules and decided that they should be deleted from the INTERPOL information system,â part of the letter read.
Commission determined that the data registered by the NCB of Ghana were not compliant with INTERPOLâs rules and should therefore be deleted.
The development marks a major turn in the governmentâs efforts to secure Ofori-Attaâs return to Ghana in connection with ongoing investigations into financial decisions taken during his tenure as Finance Minister.
The former minister has been under scrutiny over several high-profile transactions during a period in which Ghanaâs public debt rose sharply.
