ISPR says security forces foil Afghan border infiltration

Pakistan’s security forces killed 12 terrorists while foiling an infiltration attempt from Afghanistan into Kurram district, while a Pakistan Army soldier was martyred during an exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces detected the movement of a group attempting to infiltrate Pakistan from Afghanistan on October 10 and engaged them near the international border.

The military said Afghan Taliban posts also opened fire in support of the attempted infiltration. Troops responded effectively, killing 12 terrorists and members of the Afghan Taliban during the exchange of fire, the statement said.

The ISPR identified the martyred soldier as Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman, 40, who belonged to Ghizer district.

The military paid tribute to the soldier, saying he fought bravely during the intense exchange of fire.

A sanitisation operation was under way in the area to locate and eliminate any remaining terrorists, the ISPR said.

The military said the incident reinforced Pakistan’s position that the Afghan Taliban regime had failed to prevent terrorist organisations from using Afghan territory to carry out attacks against Pakistan.

The ISPR accused Afghan Taliban posts of supporting the attempted infiltration and said the regime had repeatedly failed to meet its international counterterrorism obligations.

These allegations were made by the Pakistani military. No response from Afghan Taliban authorities was included in the statement provided.

The ISPR said security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue counterterrorism operations under the government’s “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.

It said operations would continue against what it described as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism, reaffirming the military’s commitment to protecting Pakistan’s borders.
