I Was in Lagos Last Week to Campaign, It Was a Total Shutdown;I Couldn’t Get Out of the Car-Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has described the massive crowd he witnessed during a recent campaign visit to Lagos as a powerful experience, recounting how residents turned out in large numbers for a one-million-man march.

Sowore made the remarks during an interview on SYMFONI Television on Saturday, October 10, 2026, while narrating his experience in Lagos and the scale of public participation he observed during the campaign-related event.

According to the AAC candidate, he travelled to Lagos by air last week to campaign and was confronted with an unexpectedly large gathering when he arrived in the city the following day. He described the atmosphere as a total shutdown, highlighting the number of people who came out to participate in the march.

Sowore particularly recalled the scene around the Maryland area, where he said residents poured into the streets in large numbers. Although he remained inside his vehicle and did not personally join the crowd on foot, he said the sight and atmosphere left a strong impression on him.

“I was in Lagos last week to campaign. I flew in, and the next day, when we got to Lagos, it was a total shutdown. They had a one-million-man march, and when we got to the Maryland area, people just came out en masse. I didn’t get out of the car, but it was powerful,” Sowore said.

His account emphasised the scale of the crowd and the intensity of the reception he witnessed, even from inside his vehicle. By describing the experience as powerful, Sowore underscored the impression made on him by the large turnout during his campaign visit to Lagos.

However, the one-million-man description was Sowore’s characterisation of the march, and the actual size of the crowd was not independently established in the remarks provided.
