Woman found dead along Tangipahoa River near Independence, police say

INDEPENDENCE, La. (WVUE) – A woman was found dead Saturday (Oct. 10) along the Tangipahoa River near the Highway 40 bridge, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

A fisherman found the woman around 1:30 p.m. along the riverbank. Firefighters who arrived first confirmed she was dead.

Investigators believe the woman was from out of state and had no permanent home. She had been living out of her car, which was found parked along the highway.

The Coroner’s Office has not yet confirmed her identity or cause of death.
