Don’t Abandon Party Structures Just Because You’re in Power” – Daniel Acheampong Sounds Alarm
A Takoradi-based New Patriotic Party (NDC) enthusiast, Daniel Acheampong, has sounded an important warning to his party: staying in government is not enough—the party’s grassroots structures must remain active, vibrant, and well-resourced.
Mr. Acheampong made the call after donating 16 air conditioners and 11 television sets to the Western Regional NDC. The generous donation is intended to furnish the party’s newly acquired regional office and support capacity-building programmes for executives and members.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Acheampong explained that political parties often make the mistake of neglecting their internal structures once they win power. According to him, this neglect weakens the party at the grassroots level and makes it vulnerable when elections approach.
“A party in government must never forget the structures that put it there,” he said. “If we allow our regional and constituency offices to become dormant, we are simply preparing the ground for our own defeat.”
He noted that the new office will serve as a hub for training, coordination, and engagement, helping executives stay connected with the grassroots. The air conditioners and television sets, he added, are practical contributions to create a comfortable and functional working environment.
Regional executives who received the items expressed deep gratitude, describing Mr. Acheampong as a committed and generous party member whose support goes beyond rhetoric. They pledged to put the items to good use and ensure the office becomes a centre of activity.
Mr. Acheampong urged other well-meaning members and sympathisers to emulate his gesture, stressing that strong party structures are the foundation of electoral success. His message is clear: government power is temporary, but a well-organised party endures.
